The vast and verdant hills of Lisbon enjoy long hours of sunshine and a cool Atlantic breeze, and have, until now, created cheap and cheerful table wines. Today, a group of young, dynamic winemakers has started a fresh conversation about the region, rooted in quality and bold combinations of innovation and tradition. Some are making alternative wines from native varieties; others are focusing on reviving long-forgotten vineyards, but all their wines carry the characteristic saltiness of the ocean-flanking region.
